Kogi Communal Clashes: Senate needs rehabilitation of Bassa, Igbira, Komi communities

The Senate, on Wednesday, required for the rehabilitation of the razed communities involved in communal clashes in Bassa Local government Part of Kogi State.

The upper holding chamber also urged the Federal government Ministry of Humanitarian Matters, Disaster Management and Interpersonal Development to provide with pet shelters, educational and health services to the internally displaced individuals.

This resolution has been sequel to an adopted movement at plenary sponsored simply by Senator Isah Jibrin symbolizing Kogi East Senatorial region.

Jibrin in his business lead debate affirmed that the chaotic clashes that took place within 2016 and 2019 made over 100,000 individuals homeless and, thus, grew to become refugees.

He furthermore pointed out that about 100 individuals were wiped out from Igbira, Bassa Komi communities while 146 persons were also killed by alleged ethnic militia besides the destruction of house worth millions of naira.

The lawmaker said, “educational institutions have been destroyed, numerous buildings and other facilities totally burnt down, thereby which makes it absolutely difficult for the kids of the affected communities to reach educational facilities.

“The particular destruction of schools, wellness centers are obviously non-existent to cater for the health requirements of the affected communities since the few hitherto existing types have been lost to the hostilities, and this has increased the rate associated with mortality in the affected areas.

“Markets, Gas stations, shops and different business outfits in the impacted communities have been completely destroyed, therefore throwing people to an unavoidable state of economic helplessness.”
