The battle line for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming election in Edo State was drawn few days ago as the two main contenders from the ruling party’s factions, the incumbent, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, obtained nomination forms to run.
An ardent supporter of Ize-Iyamu told Nigeria News World that “Ize-Iyamu is a bonafide member of APC and duly registered and that those who masqueraded as LGA chairmen and addressed the press following heavy monetary inducement missed the point”. He said “Ize-Iyamu complied with Article 9 of APC constitution by electing to register online and ensuring that his name is on the data base of the party. He further said as a grassroot man he also obtained a membership card from the ward. Ize-Iyamu is the consensus candidate of APC mainstream in Edo having received the endorsement of about seven other heavyweight Governorship aspirants. Together with his support group, he is ready to face any other aspirant at direct primaries scheduled by the National Working Committee of the party on June 22, 2020”.
Also, he said “Imuse has not been restrained by any court order. The interim order originally granted by the High Court expired by effluxion of time. No order was granted to elongate the said interim order which has been challenged on a pending appeal. The last order granted by the court was the maintenance of status quo simpliciter, which means that Imuse remains acting Chairman, having assumed the post before Ojezua went to court. Ojezua remains suspended. Get the gist right!”
