Real Madrid stunned at home by a resurgent Manchester City

The second part of the UEFA champions league knock out games kicked off in Madrid and Lyon and both games stunned pundits.

Juventus lost to a resilient Lyon but it was Real Madrid’s capitulation at the Bernabeu, coming from 1-0 up to lose the match that left left jaws hanging.

The match lived up to it’s hype as both teams started with world class line ups with Madrid boasting the likes of Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema and Marcelo while Manchester city, fresh from lodging an appeal with CAS against the two year UEFA ban, started the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Berndado Silva and Kevin De Bruyne

The first half ended in a 0-0 draw given the cagey affair it was with both teams trying to avoid mistakes. In the second half, Isco gave Real Madrid the lead on 60 minutes after Manchester City’s defensive error allowed the  to take the lead.
City introduced Raheem Sterling who became the catalyst for the next goal as City responded with a Gabriel Jesus header on 78 minutes before they won a penalty just four minutes later.

In what turned out to be a night to forget for Real Madrid, their captain, Sergio Ramos was also given a straight red card for a foul on Gabriel Jesus, the 23rd of his career.

Real Madrid will be hoping to turn things around when they visit the Etihad in three weeks, but with Manchester city’s two away goals, Real would need two unreplied goals to qualify.
